As Glinda the Good Witch, AVAM’s Fifi wore a silver crown. While her eyes looked like it was a rough night, she and her two pilots seemed ready for a challenging day.

After climbing Battery Avenue she headed into Federal Hill park.

She wore her pearl necklace last seen in the 2017 race.

After completing the morning southern loop, she suffered a breakdown on the level ground of Key Harbor near Rash Field.

This wheel is supposed to be attached and handle hundreds of pounds of weight and torque. Her front axle sheared clean off at the left front wheel. Since the break occurred on Key Highway while not under a lot of stress, we suspect metal fatigue as the cause.

Fifi’s crew returned her to AVAM, and immediately deployed Baby Fifi as backup. With one pilot, Baby Fifi is smaller but just as cheerful.

Baby Fifi wasn’t ready for a swim, so she switched to the Bush League and bypassed the Patterson Park obstacles.

Fifi cocked an ear to hear the applause and jubilation of her finish.

Her crew were dressed as Dorothy and companions from the Wizard of Oz.
