Overlea Kinetic (formerly CAP Kinetic) entered Engines & Dragons Take Two, a beautiful miniature red fire truck chased by a flying dragon.
Due to some unexpected technical issues, he won the Next-to-Last Award (because coming in last is easy, this can make the end of the race pretty exciting).

The rear wheels are pedal-powered through a 3-stage gear train, and the front wheels by this high-torque ratchet crank.

Kids love the fire engine with working siren and emergency light. (There were no children at the Katyń Memorial circle.)

On the water the fin-based Hobie Mirage Drive was so successful he created a bow wave. A key challenge of water propulsion is ensuring it’s at the right depth. He nailed it this time and his backup paddle went unused.

He had no trouble zooming around the ACE buoy.

Driving out of the water was also no challenge for this well-engineered drivetrain & flotation.

With siren blaring and red beacon light spinning, he drove into the mud. But something went wrong right away and the hand crank didn’t seem to help.
It looks a bit like his helmet chin strap is configured to mechanically constrain expletives.

The Mud Doctors pushed Engines & Dragons Take Two through the obstacle.

This year’s Next-to-Last trophy is pretty darn awesome.
The surprise is that Captain Pat made the trophy himself before coming in next-to-last to receive that same trophy.
